Many Thanks to Robert Matsunaga for His Generosity

“Artists are among the most generous of people. Perhaps inherent in the appreciation of creativity comes a deep, -Kelly Borsheim

underlying love of humanity and our Earth”

A long time friend of  Shinnyo-en Foundation, Robert Matsunaga, can be regarded as an artist in all of his endeavors. As a graphic designer, photographer, and writer, he has shared his skills in the service of others alongside the Shinnyo-en Foundation for several years.

From creating beautiful graphic images that convey the Shinnyo-en Foundation’s paradigm of Service, to taking fantastic photos of program partners and events, Mr. Matsunaga exemplifies the value of service shared with others through creative art.

Perhaps it comes as no surprise that his generosity extends beyond his own talents with an appreciation of the work of others.

Inspired by classic literary works, Mr. Matsunaga made a generous donation of classic literature to the Shinnyo-en Foundation’s library. Having enjoyed most of them himself, Mr. Matsunaga felt that it was necessary to share the collection with others.

The donation consists of over one hundred collectors’ edition classics, including rare editions from the Hawaiian Bicentennial Collection that Mr. Matsunaga enjoyed reading as a child.

The truly exceptional generosity of Robert Matsunaga will be enjoyed by many, and we would like to express our deep gratitude for the addition of classic literature from around the world to our library.

Of course, our reading list has already been assigned and it begins with a few of Mr. Matsunaga’s favorites, Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens and Sea Wolf by Jack London.
