In the fall of 2014, a seed was planted to develop a new summer course at Hartford Seminary, one of the Foundation’s grantees. After hearing from Hartford’s leaders and their desire to bring more dialogue on Dharmic religions to the campus, the Foundation worked closely with Hartford and Professor Michiaki Okuyama of Nanzan University to create a week-long summer course called the “Spirituality and Practices of Asian Religions.” Focusing on the daily practices of religious life and spirituality throughout Asia, Professor Okuyama invited and coordinated a diverse group of experts on Indian, Chinese, Korean and Japanese religions for students to engage with.
