Shinnyo-en Foundation supports “Choice Group Inc.” who partnered with Youth Arts & Media (YAM) in Los Angeles, California for an exciting event!
Choice Group, Incorporated is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide at-risk and foster youth with a safe and nurturing environment that promotes music and related arts programs as recreational, educational and life enhancing opportunities.
In 2011 Choice Group conducted a ten-week summer pilot program that was a huge success for their beginner drum/percussion musicians. Participating youth were from ages 5-12 years old. They taught them how to play drums and percussion instruments and they learned how to play with a twelve-member drum ensemble.
Through their collaboration with the Youth, Arts, Media festival (YAM); their young musicians performed for the first time and showcased what they learned in the ten-week pilot program. It was most impressive that they had only been playing drums for ten weeks and that they performed for the first time in front of an audience of 500 people!
On September 24, 2011 there was a “free admission” one-day celebration of Youth Arts and Media (YAM) Festival in Los Angeles featuring film, photography, music, poetry, workshops and more! This event was held at Mercado La Paloma located at 3655 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, California. Everyone was welcome and encouraged to attend!
The Youth Arts and Media Festival featured youth exhibits including photography, video, dance, art, music, spoken word, skate.
