Our Staff

Harumitsu Inouye, Ed.D - Executive Director

Since the inception of the foundation, Haru has served as the Executive Director as well as a member of the Board of Directors.  His academic and professional backgrounds include multi-cultural and international education as well as intercultural management in both non-profit and for profit organizations.  He also serves at the Shinnyo-en Head Temple in Burlingame, California.  He enjoys gardening, in which he sees a parallel between human development and the gardening process; from planting seeds, nurturing them with water and fertilizer, and ensuring they get sufficient sunlight.

Liane J. Louie-Badua Ph.D. - Program Officer

Liane has a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, formerly working with children, youth and families in San Francisco and Honolulu, Hawaii.  She has served as the Program Officer at the Foundation since February 2002.  She loves warm sunny weather, peanut butter mochi, outrigger canoe paddling and surfing. 

Mariko Terazaki - Communications Manager

Mariko has a Master's degree in Political Science and has worked in the field of corporate communications and public relations for both the public and private sectors.  A former Officer at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Director for HSBC Japan, she enjoys art and music (the ballet in particular) and spending time with her son and daughter. 

Ineko Tsuchida Ph.D. - Project Manager

Ineko joined the foundation in October 2007. Her passion is improving the lives of children and their families through her personal and professional life.  Ineko was formally the program director for a daycare center in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, and she has continued to serve this community as a board member of the Bay Area Women’s and Children’s Center. For her doctoral research at UC Berkeley, Ineko conducted a cross-cultural study on teachers’ classroom management and student responsibility. As a research associate at the Developmental Studies Center in Oakland, she investigated and published studies on educational policies, elementary science education, and teachers’ professional development in Japan. She also managed the evaluation of the mathematics curriculum in San Francisco Bay Area elementary schools. Ineko served as the associate director of the Institute for Research on Women and Gender at Stanford University, and she also taught classes and supervised teaching students at San Jose State University. Most recently, Ineko coordinated the development of California’s Preschool Learning Foundations for WestEd’s Center for Child and Family Studies. Ineko’s educational philosophy emphasizes building caring learning communities based on trustful relationships among educators and learners. In her free time, Ineko enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Junko Van Norman - Finance and Operations Manager

Junko has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1989 and comes to the foundation with corporate experience in project management and administration at Shaklee and Charles Schwab.  A former art student, she also worked for the San Francisco Opera and continues her pursuits in art and music in her free time. 

Jennifer Yuko Matsuda

Jennifer was born and raised in the Bay Area and spent a year studying in Osaka, Japan during college. She has recently graduated with a bachelor of arts in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California at Berkeley. She enjoys tennis, playing the piano and laboratory research.

Eliot Honda

ehonda@sef.org

Eliot is a graduate of the Academy of Art College in San Francisco where he pursued studies in screen writing and videography.  As a freelance videographer, he has worked for Market Watch of the Dow Jones as well as on several independent projects.  Eliot is also an avid hockey fan and guitar player.
